Hi Erika, The RCTQ BOM is not actually a swap. The current block is posted the 1st of each month by our wonderful
hostess Danielle. You do not have to sign up, you can work at your own speed, you chose your colors. You do not send
anything to anyone.....your blocks are yours. Swaps are posted by the " swap hostess", she usually will
post first inquiring if there is any interest. If enough people are interested then it becomes final. The swap hostess
determines the size, theme, color, amount and date due. You then make the required number of blocks, mail them to the
hostess and then hopefully, if everyone has come through, you will get the same number of blocks in return. Sometimes
the swap will be for fabric, usually a set theme or color. It's a great way to add to your stash. Happy Quilting

would love to be in your swap... and put forth the proposal to make the size of charm we swap 9" x 11". That
way you can cut two 9" x 5 1/2" charms to make jars out of (you can play "find the other jar of

If you have DGSs into that sort of thing I have the most wonderful design for a red back spider (Black Widow) from a
Jillian Sawyer stained glass book. I have always dreamed of sewing it about five feet high with a dark background and
the black spider with a red satin patch on the back, and silver quilting. But my friends all say that NO-ONE could
possibly sleep under such a quilt. One day . . . . . . . . (evil chuckles) Let me know if you are game to try it.

I've done some sorting and cutting for a fabric swap. I have leftover pieces that I no longer want in my stash. There
are some florals, some metallics, some calicos and some that might be considered reproductions (not 30's). I'b be
glad to send them to anyone who wants to take a chance on them. I would guess they would fill a child size shoe box.
Any takers? KJ

Hi Nico, I'd love to know your birthday so I can send you a squishie. But I'd also love to do a fabric swap. American
fabric for Italian fabric. What kind of fabric do you like? Is there some thing difficult to get in Italy that you want
from this side of the world? Email me privately and we'll work out the details. Later, Sunny pomodoro wrote:

As many of you know, I have hosted an annual Halloween fabric swap for 147 years now. At this point, I have a ton of
Halloween fabrics (under heavy guard by the gargoyles and WoW toons), so I don't really need more. A temptress whom I
will not name has tried to lure me down that path with a new A. Henry print she showed me, but my resolve is firm!
However, a woman from my guild told me about a Halloween *block* swap she participated in, and how great it was, and
that sounded like fabulous fun to me! Not to mention a chance to use up some of my fabrics! Here's what I'm thinking,
and you can let me know if you are interested. If enough are interested, I'll finalize rules and post them here. Any
size block would be fine. Any style of block (paper pieced, applique, traditional piecing). Any embellishments should
be washable or removeable (I like to *use* my Halloween quilts). If the majority don't care about washability, I could
be bribed to change this one. Each person would send enough blocks so each person in the swap gets one. For example,
if 10 people sign up, you send 9 blocks (keep one for yourself). You get back the same number of blocks as you send,
one from each other person in the swap. Blocks could be all the same, or not. Some people don't like making 10 blocks
all the same, so why torture them (except as a hobby). Each person would commit to following through on the swap.
Stuff happens, but you would be responsible to inform the Swap Hostess (me) if you must drop out. Each person will
commit to putting forth their best effort for their blocks. Last minute, slap-it-together blocks are no fun for others.
I'm not expecting Expert Blocks, just do your best. If a zillion people are interested, I may break it down into
groups, so no one has to make a zillion blocks. I'm thinking of a deadline of sending in blocks around mid-September.

This is not a time to worry over the Forsaken or the Goblins of Gnomeregan. The valiant heroes of the Alliance will
triumph over their foes. ahem. Excuse me. What I mean to say is. it's time for the 6th Annual Hallow's End Swap.
This year, instead of swapping fabric, we are swapping sets of blocks, made with Halloween fabric! (This is the *only*
Halloween swap I will host this year) This is my favorite holiday, and therefore, my favorite swap. Participants
should print out these rules for future reference - computers have a habit of "losing" important info like
this just when you really need it! You must e-mail me privately to sign up - posting here to the newsgroup is not
good enough because of all the goblins in the servers. After you e-mail me at FroodBuffy at GriffinsFlight dot com , I
will send you a confirmation e-mail with my mailing address. If you think you are signed up, but have not had a
cheery, personal email from me, you are *not* signed up!! Sign up by August 15, 2006. If you are not signed up by then,
it's too late! While I will be sending confirmation e-mails back to you as quickly as possible, I will be on stash
raids on and off this month. I'll check my mail and get back to you as soon as I can when I return. The swaps need to
be in my bone-chillingly cold hands by September 18th. Here are the Official Rules: 1) We are swapping sets of
quilt blocks, the number to be determined by the number of people who join, but no less than 6, and no more than 10 per
set. (If a large number of people sign up, there may be a chance to swap more than one set. But don't hold your breath
- you don't look great blue) 2) Blocks may be pieced or appliqué. Embellishments should be washable or removable.
(Embellishments are strictly optional). Blocks should have a Halloween theme, either with Halloween fabrics pieced, or
as an appliqué design. These blocks should be G-rated. We are not swapping excerpts from a Wes Cravens film. Think
FrankenPooh and Great Pumpkin, not Freddy Kruger and Jason. If your block makes my children cry or run away in fear, I
will sic my minions on you. 3) Blocks may be any size divisible by 3". 3"x3" or 6"x6" or
6"x9" or 12"x12" or 12"x6", etc. Max size 12" square, min size 3" square. NOTE:
add seam allowances to above sizes. 4) Please use your best skills in creating these blocks. That's not to say you
can't try something new, or that you need to be an expert. But sloppily-made, hastily-sewn blocks are no fun to get
back in the mail. 5) All fabric must be washable. Have I stressed the washability enough? I plan on using any
quilt I make and in my house, that means it gets washed. 6) I live in a smoke-free home. I do have a dog, but he is
not allowed free access to fabric, and I take precautions to ensure no hair gets on swaps. (Ok, this one's not a rule,
but a FYI) 7) Send your blocks in a plastic bag (HOWEVER! Press-N-Seal is NOT acceptable, due to bad experiences in
past swaps!!), to keep it safe on its journey, and enclose your name and address in the wrapping, in case of envelope
rippage. Send a self-addressed envelope with return postage (not metered!!!) in with your swap. My post office will not
accept metered mail, no matter what your post office tells you. 8) Non-USA participants email me for mailing
instructions. I try to allow enough time for swaps to get to me from outside the US, and to allow for mail holidays.
9) Mail your package so it arrives in my hands by September 18th. I will mail the swaps back out by September 22nd.
10) Email me privately to sign up and get my mailing address. FroodBuffy at GriffinsFlight dot com Everyone who
signs up is expected to follow through with the commitment. If you sign up, but find you cannot participate, please
send me a note to let me know not to expect anything from you. Stuff happens, no big. But a note will give me a heads
up, so I don't sit by the mailbox, harassing Alton everyday. :-) I will be inviting some of my real-life friends to
participate. If you know a non-RCTQer who would like to participate, you may invite them to sign up. Just please make
sure they are willing to follow through with the swap. (you can even save on postage by combining the mailing) If you
are unsure what kind of block or fabric to use, just ask. I'll be happy answer any questions. Questions? Email me, the

soon as I can when I return. The swaps need to be in my bone-chillingly cold hands by September 18th. Here are the
Official Rules: 1) We are swapping sets of quilt blocks, the number to be determined by the number of people who
join, but no less than 6, and no more than 10 per set. (If a large number of people sign up, there may be a chance to
swap more than one set. But don't hold your breath - you don't look great blue) 2) Blocks may be pieced or
appliqué. Embellishments should be washable or removable. (Embellishments are strictly optional). Blocks should have a
Halloween theme, either with Halloween fabrics pieced, or as an appliqué design. These blocks should be G-rated. We are
not swapping excerpts from a Wes Cravens film. Think FrankenPooh and Great Pumpkin, not Freddy Kruger and Jason. If your
block makes my children cry or run away in fear, I will sic my minions on you. 3) Blocks may be any size divisible by
3". 3"x3" or 6"x6" or 6"x9" or 12"x12" or 12"x6", etc. Max size
12" square, min size 3" square. NOTE: add seam allowances to above sizes. 4) Please use your best skills in
creating these blocks. That's not to say you can't try something new, or that you need to be an expert. But sloppily-
made, hastily-sewn blocks are no fun to get back in the mail. 5) All fabric must be washable. Have I stressed the
washability enough? I plan on using any quilt I make and in my house, that means it gets washed. 6) I live in a
smoke-free home. I do have a dog, but he is not allowed free access to fabric, and I take precautions to ensure no hair
gets on swaps. (Ok, this one's not a rule, but a FYI) 7) Send your blocks in a plastic bag (HOWEVER! Press-N-Seal is
NOT acceptable, due to bad experiences in past swaps!!), to keep it safe on its journey, and enclose your name and
address in the wrapping, in case of envelope rippage. Send a self-addressed envelope with return postage (not
metered!!!) in with your swap. My post office will not accept metered mail, no matter what your post office tells you.
8) Non-USA participants email me for mailing instructions. I try to allow enough time for swaps to get to me from
outside the US, and to allow for mail holidays. 9) Mail your package so it arrives in my hands by September 18th. I
will mail the swaps back out by September 22nd. 10) Email me privately to sign up and get my mailing address.
FroodBuffy at GriffinsFlight dot com Everyone who signs up is expected to follow through with the commitment. If you
sign up, but find you cannot participate, please send me a note to let me know not to expect anything from you. Stuff
happens, no big. But a note will give me a heads up, so I don't sit by the mailbox, harassing Alton everyday. :-) I
will be inviting some of my real-life friends to participate. If you know a non-RCTQer who would like to participate,
you may invite them to sign up. Just please make sure they are willing to follow through with the swap. (you can even
save on postage by combining the mailing) If you are unsure what kind of block or fabric to use, just ask. I'll be
happy answer any questions. Questions? Email me, the lvl35 Skeletal Mage: FroodBuffy at GriffinsFlight dot --

Nope. Not gonna worry about it. Great-looking blocks are very often made with great quality materials, which cause few
problems. I do wash my fabric first, but I won't impose that rule this time. -- Wendy

I have wondered about the all one color commercial batiks and why they are called batiks. I had assumed that the duo or
multi tones called batiks were done useing some sort of resist process, though not necessarily wax. I have played about
with some chemical resists doing batik style things. Some of it is good, some of it is not. I think that next time I
do batik on silk I am going back to wax and steaming instead of useing the rubbery stuff that allows you to simmer it.
On the other hand on cotton, water soluble guttas are great for detail where you don't need a full dyebath. The water
soluble metallic ones are the total poo for adding those metallic glints that are so expensive when the big companies do
them. NightMist On Tue, 29 Aug 2006 08:15:16 -0500, Susan Laity Price <slpdesigns@speakeasy.net> wrote:

I usually prewash all fabrics but I always prewash batiks. Often I will pretest batiks individually in a bucket of
water. If the water shows just a little color I will toss the fabric into the machine and wash regularly. If there is a
lot of color I will treat the load with Retayne. Anytime I want to save time and skip prewashing I remember the call of
desperation I received from a friend. She had just completed a masterpiece. It was a very involved appliqued urn of
flowers with a beautiful blue bird circling above. She had spent all winter on the handquilting. It was time for our
guild show and she wanted to freshen the quilt in preparation for entering it. As she spritzed it with water the blue
bird began to run down the background fabric. She had been up all night trying everything she could to remove the blue
from the background. Nothing worked except bleach and that had removed the slight ecru color from the background fabric.
Her masterpiece did not make it to the show that year. She had to take all the handquilting out. Remove the flowers and
urn from the background (fortunately she could do that in one piece) and applique them to another background. Hard
lesson learned. Susan On Sat, 26 Aug 2006 18:48:25 -0700, "Trixie" <no_spam@no_spam.com> wrote:

Aha, a question I can answer!! LOL Color catcher sheets are made by a couple companies. I like the Shout ones (NAYY),
and I think they're actually called "Color Catchers". They're available in the laundry detergent aisle at
the groc store, Wal-Mart, etc. The stuff Susan mentioned, Retayne, I've never bought, but I'd think you could get it
at the LQS or maybe at Joann's. (again, NAYY) You add that to the wash water, to "set" the dye in the fabric,
I think. -- TerriLee in WA (state) remove the cats to reply

are fabrics that aren't necessarily right on your LQS shop shelves-- I thought I would announce it now so you would have
a couple of months to be "on the lookout for" these types of fabrics as you shop. You will need at the most 1
yard of each. That allows for 20 swappers INCLUDING yourself -- I will cut it off at that point so you won't run
short. What I will ask is that as you find your fabrics -- if you can send me a digital pic (or email me with the
manufacturer and fabric name -- I can probably find a pic on the web) I will post it like I did for the candy swap so we
can work to eliminate duplicate fabrics. I think in that swap we only had one dupe -- but it even had a different
background color -- so the way it will play on your quilt is quite different. I will post the official entry for the
swap early January. I will accept the first 20 (including anyone who emails me pictures between now and then -- you
will already be "in" -- so your fabric won't go to waste ... like it would! LOL). So if you think you'll be
interested ... start watching for fabrics.... If you find them and know for certain you want to participate... please
let me know (and let me "see" the fabrics you've found) so I can post them so others won't duplicate the
fabrics. Please feel free to email me with questions. In January I will post all of the additional details of the swap
-- mailing deadlines, addresses, etc. If you have any questions... please let me know. If you would like to TENTATIVELY
sign up -- go ahead and email me privately now at grovesfam at comcast dot net and please put SWAP FOR THE BIRDS in the
subject line (that way it will be certain NOT to end up in my spam folder). Guess that's it for now. If you have
questions, please post them here. I will repost this again in about 2 weeks. Then as Thanksgiving/December Holidays
approach I won't post anything until the official swap post in January. Keep an eye out for those seed and house
fabrics!!! Kate in MI -- http://community.webshots.com/user/K_Groves [/quote:e2def0af28]

I know it won't be super-easy. That's why I thought I would give a 2 months heads up for people to start looking!
Doesn't necessarily have to be a seed print... just something that looks like it... Sometimes just browsing through
the LQS and you stumble upon something. I keep a list of things like this I"m looking for and glance at it before
I go into the shop -- so if I see something... hopefully it will click in my head! Kate in MI

We got two sets of the mugs too. I gave a set of them to my elderly neighbor who loves cups. I kept the other set. You
really do have to make a trip to the flea market your next trip. I love wind chimes and we found this one vendor who had
tons of different sized bamboo wind chimes. Of course I had to have one. lol. Mika "Sharon Harper"

Oh Bronnie! There's too much to fit into a single post! The flight over was quite good, I slept most of the 9.5 hours
as did the kids. Then 2 days in Waikiki to recover from any jet lag and dag around on the beach. We did decide
though to swap hotels for the post-cruise time (a good decision) as our current hotel was undergoing reno's. We
managed to discover a wonderful Ice Cream Shop (needs capitals) called the Cold Stone Creamery where they scoop the ice
cream of your choice onto a marble slab, add numerous "bits" of your choosing, mix it all together and serve
it up. Oh my - heaven in a cone!! The cruise was amazing - pampering and fun and laughter. First day out we did a
"pub crawl" and you'd be proud of us Bronnie, we were well behaved (well most of the time). The islands were
gorgeous and the people are some of the nicest I've met anywhere. Our time spent in Waikiki was great too - lots of
visits around the Island - Hanauma Bay to swim with the fishies, Pearl Harbour, Dole Plantation, and a gazillion other
things. Last day was spent at the Hawaiian Water Park. LOL!!! 2 weeks in Hawaii and THAT was the day we got
sunburmed!! You should see DH's hip - he had been complaining for 2 days that his hips were really really sore (we
could only imagine from bumping down the water slides. The day after we got home there is a palm sized bruise on his
left hip 'round the back end. Tee Hee!!! Only 11.5 more weeks till Christmas Vacation...... -- Sharon from
