as most of us have happily discovered. <G> As for the technique you describe, that's how I learned to quilt, too

five) on lap quilting to teach myself to quilt, and I loved it. :) See if you can find one of her earlier books, either
at the library or online or at a bookstore; they're very easy to understand. HTH. :) -- Sandy in Henderson, near Las

There are several methods of quilting as you go. Here are links that have descriptions of several methods. Please note
that while I reseached this a while back, I have not tried all of them, nor do I have any of these books on the subject.
* With this method, individual blocks or sections of a quilt can be done. It does require some hand work on the back.
Georgia Bonesteel's series of books, already mentiioned by Patti. http://www.secretsof.com/content/624
http://www.acornhillquilts.com/quiltasyougo.pdf * A method that requires no hand sewing. The batting in one section is
separate from the batting in another section. In the shown example, the quilting was done across strips of blocks that
were sewn together. http://community.webshots.com/album/547387259nozWsW * There is a variation on the previous one, but
for some reason I cannot find the link for it this morning. First the blocks are sewn together in strips (width or
length of the quilt). A single section is quilted, but not to the edges. The batting for the next section is sewn to
the batting in the already quilted section. The top strip for the next section is sewn to the top of the already
quilted section. The backing strip for the next section is sewn to the bottom of the already quilted section. The next
section is smoothed, basted and quilted (if it is not the outer edge of the quilt, do not quilt to the edges). Repeat
as needed. * A sashing on the back covers the seams. This sashing is machine sewn and shows on the front.
http://www.treadleon.net/quiltshop/joiningblocks/joining.html * Betty Cotton developed a different method, as shown on
her web site. The result is a reversible quilt, that has some three dimensional ridges. Betty appeared on "Sewing
with Nancy". I think there were three episodes on her "Pinetree" quilt. http://www.quiltyard.com/ *
Julie Olson has a method that uses Steam-a-Seam 2 and a bias tape maker that is described in her book.
http://tinyurl.com/ecw6p I'm sure there are others, as quilters tend to be so innovative. Bev in TX Sharon & Jack

Bernina's and WHipporwill stands alone on 27 in Belleview. Peggy's is in the strip mall as you thought.. next door to a
nice little yummy eating place. Hobby Lobby is on 200 near Taco Bell , and not far from BoWilliams as you go down 464.
Almost across from Golden Corral!! I love to eat...lol! I cant wait to meet you.. are any members of your family into
quilting? or do you go shopping alone when you are here? HHHHMMMMM.. I already reserved that week end for you.. .lol. I
used up two of my strips of fabric today.. lol.. a quilting friend showed me the "secret pillowcase" Took
about 15 minuts.. lol.. pretty with pansy fabric and my purple accent. then tonite I think I will figure out how to put
together a heart quilt I did with a round robin group. It will be small, but for me!!.... Dont know if I want floral
fabric or a Fossil Fern or what I want for it. Some are strips, some are squares on point.. so I thought I would put
the strips together, then then use the onpoint blocks in a vertical border.... need to set it out and think on it. hugs

location since I combined it with a trip to the cross stitch shop (Brickchurch?), but still make the trip to the new one
near the Villages. I will have to find the Hobby Lobby though! The CottonBelle is certainly worth the trip!

Yesterday, I went for my pre-op and low and behold when they did the : EKG it showed that I have had a heart attack.
It had to be mild : because I can't recall any really bad pains, but minor chest pain has : not been uncommon for me
the last year and a half. Tomorrow I am : taking the EKG to my family doctor because to me it looks just like : the
one that I had a year and a half ago that sent me to a : cardiologist, that did a heart cath and said I had a 40%
blockage in : one artery, nothing to worry about they said. So if I get the OK from : my family doctor I am having my
knee surgery on Friday. They gave me : a set of crutches to practice using at home and said I would be : non-weight
bearing for two weeks and must use these crutches. Well, I : am over weight and I do not have the strength in my upper
body to lift : my lower body with my hands like they say you are suppose to do. I : will take the crutches with me to
the hospital but when I get home I : plan to use my mother's walker that she had. I just cannot walk on : the
crutches. : : Right now I am still cooking and cleaning trying to get ready for the : "adventure" I lack two
more rooms having the house completely done : and will do those tomorrow and also do the laundry all up tomorrow. :
Now this is after I get back from my doctor's appointment. I may run : into Thursday before I get everything finished
and I may not get it : all done. I have over 50 meals now cooked and frozen and all that has : to be done is unthawed
and thrown into a dish or pan to cook. Yippee : for me. I pray that my dad will be able to follow the directions
that : I have written on each item. If not I will only be a few steps, hops : or whatever away. : : I also have my

are a praying person, pray for me. I admit I am scared : and almost backed out and still do not know that it will be
a sure : thing until after I see doctor tomorrow. Stress is killing me for : sure. Today my sister's took my dad and
went to vote, I was gone when : they did and dad was suppose to wait for me to get back and go vote : with me. I
passed my sisters in town but they were headed out of town : which is the way I thought they were going. I got home,
door was not : locked, walked in and Dad's computer was on, the light was on in the : kitchen and it looked like he was
here. He was not. I walked all our : property looking for him, went up and down the stairs searching for : him. I
walked over to the neighbors and no one knew where he was. So : I sat down on our back porch, picked up Sugar, my pup,
and cried, I : had no idea where he was, couldn't find him, the truck was home so I : knew he was not in it. I was so
sick that I started throwing up, : about an hour later my two sisters and dad pulled up in one sister's : car. I was
ready to kill them and was so stressed out. I asked them : why they didn't leave me a note, they said they didn't
think of it, : yet they want me to leave them a note if I leave the house before they : are up or before they come over
and tell them if he has or hasn't had : his medications. You know these are the sisters that have said, I : best have
enough meals cooked because they do not have time to help : me, and I should go to a nursing home to recover. I just
cannot : believe they would leave the house with dad and not tell me. They : have yet to ask me how my doctor's
appointment went yesterday and they : won't ask me about tomorrow's either, I am sure. : : Well, I needed to vent, I am
sorry for bothering you all, but I also : wanted to say I may or may not be around for a few days and also ask : for
the prayer. : : Lots of Love to all, : : Jacqueline in KY

As well as labels I print a lot of photos on fabric for memory quilts made in the classes. We finished one tonight -
the photos set in a ladder-like setting of black fabric with a stip of B&W horizontal stripe fabric (cut to look
like squares) and another of black, so it looks like a roll of film right across the back of the quilt. Because of the
number we do I buy the 50sheet packs from Electric Quilt. Even with air mail postage to Australia it works out
cheaper than buying a few sheets at a time. If you are part of a group you could propose buying a larger qty and
sharing the cost. There are considerable savings to be had that way. -- Cheryl & the Cats in OZ o o

<dbeitzell@yahoo.com Subject: 2006-2007 RCTQ BOM for November Date: Tuesday, October 31, 2006 5:32 AM Happy
Halloween! *BOO!* I'm heading off on vacation in the morning, so I thought I'd better get these posted before I leave!
Maybe when I get back I'll get photos of mine and get them to Teri to post! Enjoy! Dannielle How this BOM works is I
will post block patterns each month near the beginning of each month. One is pieced, one appliqué and one paper pieced.
It is up to you which one (or ones) you would like to do. You will work at your own pace over the course of each month.
You keep your blocks. You do not mail them to me. At the end of the year you will have twelve blocks to set into a
quilt. You keep the quilt. You do not mail it to me (unless you really feel the need to give me this gift!). You will
then have your very own 2006-2007 RCTQ BOM quilt. When I announce a month's block patterns, I will also include the
previous months' as well so if you decide to join along the way you will have all the blocks. Pieced blocks and paper

the level of difficulty of her block patterns. One pin blocks are fairly simple and they increase in difficulty as the
number of pins increase. I will start with one pin blocks and increase our difficulty as we go so that we are
challenged, but not overwhelmed! I also consider myself a fairly novice quilter, and these will all be blocks I would
be willing to try (well, maybe not the appliqué). Most of the blocks with only have three colors to them; however, some

get them to Teri to post! Enjoy! Dannielle How this BOM works is I will post block patterns each month near the
beginning of each month. One is pieced, one appliqué and one paper pieced. It is up to you which one (or ones) you
would like to do. You will work at your own pace over the course of each month. You keep your blocks. You do not mail
them to me. At the end of the year you will have twelve blocks to set into a quilt. You keep the quilt. You do not
mail it to me (unless you really feel the need to give me this gift!). You will then have your very own 2006-2007 RCTQ

so chose. This BOM will run from April 2006 through May 2007. This is how the schedule breaks down:

Great dress. Lucky little girl indeed. And the pup -- cute as a bug. I think she's got some Shar-pei in her. That's
based on those strong, stocky back legs and the coat. My sis has a dog that's half shar-pei and the body is really
similar. Ears and nose might be shepherd, but also might be cattle dog (also known as heelers). There are a lot of those

Hi I did a T-shirt quilt once for a friend and I found a darkish blue fabric with pin-point, very pin-point dots, of
all colors, in it. It went very well with all of the color shirts. Maybe something like that would work for this for
a border of some sort. IMHO I think it would look fine with a border and would give a little more structure to the
quilt. I think the decorative stitch idea would be good over each seam to help stabilize it all. They really are
neat to have, but I don't envy you working with this kind of fabric. Stretchy t-shirt material is bad enough. Steve
Alaska "Tia Mary" <CatWom7711@aol.com> wrote in message news:4ql4igFnp7dsU1@individual.net... Hi Guys,
Fool that I am, I agreed to make a quilt out of our nephew's youngest sons hockey jerseys. BAD IDEA!!! OY, the pain --
LOL! When I agreed, I was thinking along the lines of a t-shirt quilt, several of which I have made in the past.
WRONG! I had forgotten that sports jerseys are made of nylon -- slippery, slithery, ultra stretchy nylon. VBS -- I just
got the top together and am extremely happy to be done with that part of the job. Fortunately, there were only 16 of
the jerseys -- fifteen of which make up the front of the quilt -- three across and five down. That last one will go on
the back -- maybe :-)! Also fortunately, all but one of the logos on the jersey fronts would fit inside a 14.5"
square block. The other one had to be cut 16.5 x 14.5 so I cut down two of the smaller logo front shirts to 13.5 x 14.5
and put that row in the center. It looks OK that way -- with the odd row in the center. This also meant that I only
had two seams on two rows that had to matched! I started off as you would with regular t-shirts by ironing fusible
interfacing to the back side of the logo area and then cutting all the fronts to size. Good thing the iron interfacing
doesn't require much heat to melt the glue or I would have been in deep doo-doo!! Anyway, this extravaganza is gonna be
a lap quilt because it is already so heavy it's liable to cost me a small fortune to mail it to the kid. Speaking of
the kid, he's from Minnesota and a whale of a good hockey player -- so good he has an all expense paid hockey
scholarship to pretty much the University of his choice. Right now he's playing AAA hockey in New Mexico, hoping to get
some heavy experience and put a few pounds on himself. He's a slender, smallish young man and needs to bulk up before
he can play competitive hockey at the University level. So, back to the quilt -- it's 43" x 72" right now
and I'm not sure if I want to add a border or not. I'm also pretty sure I will use some poly batting I already have on
hand. Since the shirts are all nylon or poly and *really* heavy -- some with huge team appliqués on the front -- I
think the lighter batt will be better. Also, many of the shirts had different color fabric strips, etc. sewn along the
edges where I cut them up so I decided to press the seams open to reduce the bulk. I will do some sort of decorative
top stitch over the seams in both directions and then probably just bar tack the blocks in strategic places. With the
heavy appliqués and the rubbery logo printing, etc. there is no way this top could be quilted or even hand tied! I
just had DH take a pic of the top and I will post it to the QUILTS album at Webshots. If anyone is interested, go take
a look in an hour or so. Then, if you have any comments or suggestions I would be happy to hear them. I have a yard of
hockey theme fabric and I'm not sure if I want to use it for anything. I might use it to go behind my label which will
probably be muslin (as will the backing) in the shape of a kitty's head. I also have 4 or 5 patches I took off the
sleeves of the shirts and I might sew them to the front or back -- haven't decided just yet. So, in closing, let me
urge ALL of you NOT to undertake making a quilt out of nylon sports jerseys -- especially the ones with the little holes
knit into them! T-shirt quilts are good and a total walk in the park compared to this slithery, stretchy stuff --

just bar tack the blocks in strategic places. With the heavy appliqués and the rubbery logo printing, etc. there is no
way this top could be quilted or even hand tied! I just had DH take a pic of the top and I will post it to the
QUILTS album at Webshots. If anyone is interested, go take a look in an hour or so. Then, if you have any comments
or suggestions I would be happy to hear them. I have a yard of hockey theme fabric and I'm not sure if I want to use
it for anything. I might use it to go behind my label which will probably be muslin (as will the backing) in the shape
of a kitty's head. I also have 4 or 5 patches I took off the sleeves of the shirts and I might sew them to the front
or back -- haven't decided just yet. So, in closing, let me urge ALL of you NOT to undertake making a quilt out of
nylon sports jerseys -- especially the ones with the little holes knit into them! T-shirt quilts are good and a total
walk in the park compared to this slithery, stretchy stuff -- LOLOL! CiaoMeow >^;;^< PAX, Tia Mary >^;;^<

As usual! I would most definitely do a little practice experiment with this. I know you would know to avoid the seam
allowances when putting on your embellishments, but, if they are in any way 'fat', they might interfere with the
outside of the foot (mine are wide) - or even the top of the machine bed? Just have a go and see what you can get away
with. You could, of course, sew them together by hand afterwards. .. In message <V4x_g.502$uF.245@dukeread12>,

work terrific as I learn to embellish. They are about 12 inches long and about 5 1/2 inches wide. My friend, who has
never crazy quilted in her life informs me that I have to sew all the blocks together and then start embellishing. I
want to be able to take these blocks with me when I'm riding in the car and waiting at appointments and work on them.
They are the perfect portability size. I also thought that it would be neat to have a workshop and hand these blocks
out to participants so we could all learn embellishing together. Maybe do a donation, fund raising type quilt with them.
What do you think? Can I just start embellishing and THEN sew them together? Cindy [/quote:3de645b20f] -- Best

I can totally understand Jo. Don't part with the quilt. I still have my very first one I made which was chewed on by
ol' Tassie Jim (the binding is falling to bits but I haven't repaired it) and then loved to death by Merlot. I've
washed it but bits of his fur (he would insist on sharing so much of his fur!) have stuck to it, and I think that's a
sign that he's still around. The kids snuggle with it sometimes to remember. I also have the quilts that I made for
my nan and pop and gave them before they passed. When I snuggle I remember how happy they were and that they enjoyed
the quilts too. Quilts retain memories and have an ever expanding ability to hold more. They are special.

Your quilt is quite lovely, Bronnie, so good luck!! Maybe you will win ... if you do you will most likely get some
nice prizes. The games of chance rules apply only to those who are entering VOTES, not the quilter competition. You
just need to go to > http://www.americanquilter.com/contest/ Click on VOTER rules and/or WEEKLY DRAWING rules (now
finished) and you will see the restrictions involve VOTERS. I hope this link clears up confusion and reaches those

As a Canadian - there are many other contests and promotions that are not cross'border friendly but there are just as
many others that are US or Canada eligible. In Canada, contest winners are required to answer a 'skill-testing
question' in order to claim their winnings. In Canada, Quebec is always "prohibited by law" in joining in
other contests by provincial law just as in the States, some States prohibit by law contests from other States.
